Coco & Joe BARF diet is a complete meal. However, you can add coconut oil, fish oil, herbs or any natural supplements to the serving. We also recommend you to rotate the recipes so your dog and cats will be getting different protein sources.
Skin allergies come in many forms. It can be contact allergy (allergic to the cleaning detergents we use or the environment) or food allergy. Food allergies can be from the gluten or certain chemicals that may be in the food or they are allergic to certain overly processed protein in the food.
Since Coco & Joe BARF is a natural dog/cat food with no preservative, no artificial flavouring & no gluten as well as made from 100% human grade ingredients, it will help with food allergies.
We have not done any research on dogs with kidney issues with the BARF diet. However, we have a few customers dogs with CKD issues that are doing well on a BARF diet. In general, we do not recommend Coco & Joe BARF diet for end stage kidney patients.
Most vets do not agree with raw feeding based on a number of reasons:
1) Raw food is made from poor quality ingredients like meat dust.
2) They are worried about bacteria in raw food.
3) There is no nutritional testing.
4) They are worried about Trichinosis and also pork Tapeworms.
Coco & Joe BARF diet is made from the freshest human grade ingredients. We do not use meat dust or low quality meat. This will lower the chances of any bacteria contamination.
Moreover, we freeze our raw diet at negative 20 degrees celcius to kill off live bacteria and parasites. Dogs’ stomach acids can deal with the residue bacteria.
Other than that, we do not use raw pork in our recipes as pork may contain pork tapeworms. Coco & Joe BARF diet is nutritionally tested and we have tested our recipes on many dogs and cats over the past 20 years.
Cooking may destroy the nutrients and also the natural enzymes in raw food. Therefore, it is
generally not recommended to cook it. Cooking also destroy Taurine that is so important in a
cat diet. Most dogs like their food cold but for old, sick dogs or young puppies, you can try warming the BARF diet. You can warm it up by placing the Coco & Joe BARF diet in a stainless steel bowl and placing the bowl in warm water to warm it up. After the raw diet is warmed up, it should be consumed as soon as possible.
Dogs changing to a raw diet may experience some detoxification or none at all. The symptoms may include vomiting, loose stool and pimples/rashes. These symptoms are usually mild and do not cause any serious issues. Cats usually don’t experience detoxification.

Usually these symptoms are mild. If your dog or cat is active, eating, and drinking like usual as well as having normal body temperature, tempureture is normal then there should not be any reason to worry.
Our food is totally free from any artificial flavouring. If your dog/cat are used to some very
strong smelling food then it may need some time to adjust to the BARF diet. Some patience is needed.
The normal Coco & Joe BARF diet will have dark red colour except for the duck recipe that looks a bit brown yellowish. If you see white/grey colour or frozen blood on the side of the pack, then it may not be fresh. Another indication is the dogs and cats will not eat them if they have gone bad.
